FALL 2021

WELLNESS EDITION

Pets come in many forms such as canines, felines, reptiles, and water animals. No matter the size, breed, or critter preference. As a pet person, I love them all the same. This month the focus is on how pets increase our wellness through – Pet Therapy. In more ways than one, pets better us emotionally, physically, and holistically. I know this first hand because I found wellness through my pets.

Pet Therapy, became front and center when I was transitioning from state to state during the pandemic. The stress at times was overwhelming. I would think to myself – What am I doing? I am a safe person! I never take risks! But, here I was facing my fears and leaping onto faith. Lucky for me I had three travel buddies that made this journey comforting and sweet. Through my pets I’m provided with a daily dose of therapy and here’s how.

"Pet therapy builds on the pre-existing human-animal bond. Interacting with a friendly pet can help many physical and mental issues. It can help reduce blood pressure and improve overall cardiovascular health. It can also release endorphins that produce a calming effect. This can help alleviate pain, reduce stress, and improve your overall psychological state."

PHYSICAL THERAPY

Tyson, 3 (adopted October 2019) is the youngest of the bunch. He’s often referred to as 'deputy dog' because he protects my home by any means necessary. Tyson is a small breed, somewhere between a corgi and a dachshund. He is pure joy and love, with a smile that brightens up any room. Tyson has always encouraged multiple daily walks, getting me up and moving. Taking off the pounds one by one and getting me bikini ready! Recently, we upgraded to jogging intervals to get our blood flowing and push towards new goals. Leading me to make better food choices and remain mentally fit. On days I don’t want to get out of bed – Tyson barks until I surrender. Pushing me to be my best self.

EMOTIONAL SUPPORT

Next up is Rudy, 3 (adopted December 2018). The middle baby, a mama’s boy, and a cuddle bug. A handsome Blue Russian feline he is a true gentleman; very clean, dapper, and a complete sweetheart. You can find Rudy somewhere curled up; nice and comfortable taking a snooze. When he's near I'm smothered in kisses and hugs. Rudy is my trusted companion, always by my side even when dealing with some of life's twist and turns. When my emotions are all over the place and I’m feeling anxious – Rudy’s head bunts and warm embraces calmly get me through. His compassionate soul uplifts me and allows me to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

DIVINELY GUIDED

Willow, 5 (adopted November 2016) is the most beautiful feline in the land. Her tuxedo coat is dazzling and her beautiful green eyes hypnotize. Don't make eye contact she may put you under a spell. Willow is soft spoken with a gentle touch but still the fierce leader. She is truly divine. Willow is my guardian angel manifested. Healing me through each season, time and time again. Her moves are calculated, so when she comes and sits in my lap then stares up at me with a vibrant purr (creating a sound bowl effect) I've learned she's praying over me and protecting me. Creating time for me to breathe, meditate and connect from within.

It's true cats are magical and dog spelled backward is God. We are blessed to be able to share our lives with such wonderful beings. My fur–tribe make me feel safe, secure, and loved. Those daily reminders bring me a peace of mind. The most important lesson I've learned thus far is patience. Taking the time to stop and smell the roses. I'm grateful for their unconditional love and healing through Pet Therapy.

Thank you for being here with me. Our time is back. I'm so excited to share all that I have with my peeps.
