black history month '22

for

black queens

your skin glows with hues of curry, coco, and cinnamon.

your natural beauty exudes independence, confidence and brilliance.

your budding mind daydreams of future possibilities and the wonders of the world.

entering into – womanhood. will you be all you can be or who they want you to be?

life throws twists and turns although it's nothing she can't handle.

she brushes off past loves and lingering opportunities with grace and determination.

living everyday as a celebration, dancing nights away, catching flights and laughing with friends.

she grinds. works day in and day out as workloads pile sky high. her work performance is praised.

she learns with great achievement comes expectations, responsibilities and unwanted attention.

shading her with hate, mistreatment, and slander.

'she can’t work here' with her broad posture and weighted breast.

'her voice can't be heard' so rich with community involvement and knowledge.

dimming her natural light. seeping into her soul it wears and tears piece by piece.

holding her emotions inside, there is with no escape. she holds it in until she erupts.

leaving a shell of who she once was – the wide-eyed onlookers wait for her to crumble.

there is fire brewing in my core – I feel it. I embrace it.

my third eye tingles – a bigger plan is in the wings and patience is key.

birthed by a queen, I was built with the blood and bones of my grandmothers.

carrying a heart of gold and unwavering strength – I won’t be defeated or destroyed.

taking destiny into my own hands – I follow my intuition and release anything hindering my inner peace.

It's time to take back our vibrant energy and relish in it.

Joy, love, peace, and power – live within us.

Let's shine together, forever – Black Queens.
