GVIX SPRING EDITION

MAY 2022

Floral arrangements brighten up any space - home, office, event! The smells, feels, and colors! Admiration is an understatement - for me.

My first love is florals and being in their presence. My Great-Grandmother, Jennie Cox, had a passion for gardening and caring for her beloved rose bush. She passed that passion along to me. Watching her sing while planting seeds and smile with joy at her season's harvest was everything to me. I have a deep appreciation for all flowers and herbs alike. I'm grateful to be connected to nature and that's why we're here today.

Together we will be creating a floral piece with natural tones, lots of greenery, and roses - of course! There is no wrong way to work with florals - you're creating so have fun but be gentle. It's all about having fun and being proud of what you put together. Below you'll find the supplies you'll need along with simple instructions.

We need plenty of room and expect a little mess. Let's get started! Here is what you'll need:

Vase

Tape

Wire-cutter

Pair of Scissors

Silk / Dried / Fresh Flowers

Step One

Use any kind of type of tape section-off your vase. This method helps with the overall structure of the arrangement by prop up florals, organize floral patterns, and color transitions. As you'll see below I section-off exterior and 4x4 small squares.

Step Two

Starting with our greenery. Cut stems according to depth of vase. Remember better to cut too little than too much. Place stems around the edges of vase into designated sections.

Step Three

Time to add base flowers, which in my case are roses. I add about six big blush roses in no particular order or way. You can to play around with base flowers and arrange them to your liking.

(base flowers: main florals aka center-piece.)

STEP FOUR

Time to add filler flowers and stems! I'm using are a few fuzzy bunny tails and lavender pampas for added texture and pops of color. Stems can be placed randomly throughout arrangement.

Fill in bare areas that need some volume.

(filler flowers: small florals and greenery; added depth to your arrangement.)

Rose Spray

If arranging silk flowers you can add a light scent. I'm using Positive Elements rose linen mist.

I hope you enjoyed this mini lesson in florals and it inspires you to come up with your own creation!
